According to Abakjr, the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Malaysia don't take sides ('NGOs have long fought against ISA', May 21). Please refer to the report about the peaceful campaign by NGOs to protest against the government's move of locking up, again I say traitors, of this nation ('Songs of freedom resound at Central Mart', May 20).

One of the persons involved was the brother of one arrested traitor of the nation. Tell us all now that NGOs don't support the opposition.

I agree that NGOs are being led by smart people. I never underestimated them but what I am asking is for them to be fair. Anwar Ibrahim was spearheading a few NGOs against the ISA detainees. What happened to him when Mr Karpal Singh and Mr Lim Kit Siang were detained under ISA? Why did he keep quiet?

I can give you the answer - because at that time it was for his own interest not to shout out loud. He only shouted out loud when he was not in the government, when he was a student and when he was booted out from the government.

With regard to NGOs that agree with the government, well they're the ones that do not go around demonstrating and singing songs to influence others to agree with their cause.

I have to say that the police which allowed the campaign the other day in front of Central Market were not doing their job. We have laws in this country; please abide by them no matter who you are. Those who started this at the Central Market should be arrested.
