MCA deputy president Chua Soi Lek has denied that Youth chief Wee Ka Siong is ditching vice-president Liow Tiong Lai’s faction in the ongoing tussle for power.

Speculation had been sparked by two news reports earlier this week, based on Chua’s meeting with Wee last Sunday.

chua soi lek meet pork hawker 210110 02 Chua confirmed the meeting when ‘ambushed’ yesterday at Wisma MCA , but clarified that Wee was merely seeking his assistance in acquiring land for a party division in Johor.

“Wee had asked me to get the Johor MB’s assistance over the application of a piece of land for the Johor Bharu MCA division,” he explained.

Last Sunday, the Chinese-language daily Kwong Wah Jit Poh had reported that the two were spotted at a restaurant along the North-South Highway in Alor Gajah.

On Monday, Malaysian Mirror had reported that the two men had met secretly in Malacca to discuss Wee’s political future.

wee ka siong This led to rumours that Wee (left) , a staunch backer of Liow, is in the midst of defecting to Chua’s camp which is now working with the faction aligned to president Ong Tee Keat.

The Liow and Ong factions have been engaged in a bitter power struggle since last October, with the former having demanded that fresh polls be held immediately.

Although Liow and 12 others submitted their resignation letters to prompt others in the central committee to resign, no one else followed suit.

Chua has since said there will not be fresh polls.
