The police will investigate claims by Kulim Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Noordin that he was asked to implicate the 'First Couple' in the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder in return of a substantial reward.

NONE "If there is anything comes out of this... we will pursue additional investigations," said inspector-general of police Musa Hassan told a press conference at the sidelines of the Police Day celebrations in Kuala Lumpur today.

Zulkifli dropped the bombshell yesterday during the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat.

He claimed that the offer was made when he was defence counsel for chief inspector Azilah Hadri, one of two police officers accused of killing Altantuya.

Musa said that the information was a "revelation" for the police, urging anyone with information on the matter to come forward.

The top cop, however, refused to comment on the police report lodged against him yesterday, for giving false testimony over his educational qualifications during the 1998 Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's corruption trial.

"I don't want to comment on that. Let the attorney-general deal with it... This is a court matter, and the case took place a long time ago," he said.

In his police report, R Sivarasa said that Musa, who was then investigating officer, told the court that he had a law degree but told another court a decade later that he had a "diploma in law and management studies".

Musa also remained mum on the ‘third force' whom he alleged in Mingguan Malaysia recently was disrupting police work.

"I don't need to reveal anything more. Everything was explained yesterday," he said.

At a press conference in Putrajaya yesterday , Musa and Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein denied being at odds with each other, saying that the lines of communication between them are clear.

Yesterday, the IGP also denied speculations that Hishamuddin was the ‘third force' mentioned.

More goodies for cops

Meanwhile, in his speech today Prime Minister Najib Razak announced more goodies for the police force as a sign of gratitude for their good service.

General duties officers will receive an additional allowance of RM200 per month, while constables and lance corporals can look forward to time-based promotions.

Constables will be promoted to lance corporal ranking after three year of service, while lance corporals will be promoted to corporal after five years.

Commenting on this, Musa said that this is in line with the police force's efforts to attract a more diverse range of people into its ranks.

"(This is) especially to attract the Chinese and Indians who cite lack of career progression and low pay as reasons for not joining the force.

"(With time-based promotions) those who join the police force can expect to progress and retire at a higher rank," he said.
