Being denied the use of a hall did not deter Sungai Siput MP Dr D Jeyakumar, who met with 30 estate workers under the shade of a tree to help solve their problems.

psm gst forum 210110 d jeyakumar According to Jeyakumar's (left) special assistant, S Sandrasidran, youths from the Sungai Kruddha estate had invited the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) on Sunday to solve their grouses after the party had helped out at the nearby Sungai Siput Estate.

Apparently the management did not allow them the use of the estate hall and Jeyakumar was forced to use the shade of a tree as his office to hear out the grouses of the workers which include problems in getting SOCSO benefits, welfare aid, medical treatment and education opportunities for their children.

NONE Jeyakumar's experience is reminiscent of the ‘Democratic Tree' saga in Ipoh last year when ousted Pakatan speaker V Sivakumar and Pakatan politicians met in its shade as a temporary assembly to conduct the business of the House when BN refused them entry into the Perak State Assembly hall.

The move drew worldwide attention and the `Democratic Tree' became an instant tourist attraction for visitors from as far as Singapore.
