Selcat summons Manikavasagam

Kapar MP S Manikavasagam has been officially summoned by the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency over his claims of a sand scandal.

The first-term lawmaker will have to face the state assembly watchdog in a public hearing at the state secretariat building on June 2.

If he fails to do so, he may face up to 12 months' jail and a fine of RM5,000 under the Contempt of the State Legislative Assembly Enactment, said a letter the committee sent to the MP, which he posted on his blog.

In an immediate reaction, Manikavasagam (left) also said he was ready to face the committee despite his initial aversion to it, having called it "biased" .

While he said that he would also be bringing in his lawyers, he has not finalised his legal team.

"I also hope that the five people who have complained and revealed the issue to me will also be called to testify before Selcat," he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.

Selcat yet to receive documents

Selcat committee member Haniza Talha (PKR-Taman Medan) said the committee has yet to receive documents from KSSB.

She said they would need more documents from Manikavasagam himself.

"He has given some documents, but they are not enough. At the moment, it's just some papers," she told Malaysiakini .

The committee, which was passed by the state legislative assembly, is chaired by Speaker Teng Chang Khim, with Azmin Ali (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa), Saari Sungib (PAS-Hulu Kelang), Edward Lee (DAP-Bukit Gasing), Ismail Sani (Umno-Dusun Tua) and Sulaiman Abdul Razak (Umno-Permatang) as members.
