Sand-and-sex case: PKR MPs want independent body

The 11 MPs made the call to pressure Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim to form an independent panel to probe the case at a meeting in De Palma Hotel in Ampang last night.
Following the meeting, Kapar MP S Manikavasagam said he had decided to put off his police report over the matter today.
"They have asked me to hold on. I acknowledge my friends who are with me in this (the fight against corruption), and I am holding it (my police report). Every document is with me here.
"A delegation led by Indera Mahkota MP (Azan Ismail) will meet with Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim and convey to him our decision to form the independent body.
"An independent body, not (a body like Selcat that is affiliated with) Khalid. Selcat cannot investigate this. This is a state-owned company," he said, hinting at a conflict of interest in the case which has been reported to involve individuals close to the Selangor MB.
"I want the party to investigate, This is serious - it concerns the embezzlement of public funds," added Manivakasagam.
‘I’m not a liar’
He told reporters at a press conference outside the Klang district police headquarters that if the independent body fail to materialise, he will proceed with his report to the police next Monday.
Manikavasagam vowed that he would do what he had promised.
"I am not a liar, I have all the evidence, I promise I shall expose the names of those holding the highest posts in Kuala Semesta involved in this."
According to him, among those who attended the MPs meeting were Kamarul Baharin Abbas (Teluk Kemang), Zuraidah Kamaruddin (Ampang), Yusmadi Yusof (Balik Pulau), and Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (Kuala Langat).
Manikavasagam added that the evidence in his possession came from executives and contractors of Kuala Semesta - a wholly-owned sand-mining firm of Mentri Besar Incorporated.
"I have documents, photocopies of cheques and there are also statuatory declarations about the corruption in Kuala Semesta," he added.
The Kuala Semesta case has resulted in a senior aide to a Selangor executive council member Yaakob Sapari arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
MB to meet MP
Manivakasagam has came under fire from certain quarters, most notably Bagan Serai MP N Gobalakrishnan, for his allegations of corruption in Kuala Semesta.
Gobalakrishnan said his crusade would provide opportunity for Pakatan Rakyat’s political enemy to attack its state governments and leaders.
In the latest development, Khalid has agreed to meet Manivakasagam tomorrow morning to discuss the matter.
Khalid’s political secretary Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said in a statement that the state government views “Manikavasagam’s allegations seriously and will consider all his proposals to address the matter”.
