Terengganu PAS Youth today lodged a police report against Deputy Finance Minister Mohd Shafie Salleh regarding his statement that the federal government is studying the possibility of sharing Terengganu oil revenue with other states.

Its chief, Muhyidin Abdul Rashid, urged the police to investigate Shafie's statement which he alleged to be in contempt of court and laws of this country.

This was because the Terengganu state government had filed a lawsuit against the federal government and Petronas for failing to continue paying oil royalty and the case is still pending, he said.

When contacted by malaysiakini , Muhyidin, who is also MP for Hulu Terengganu, confirmed lodging the police report o­n behalf o­n the state PAS Youth at the Kuala Terengganu police headquarters at 11.20am today.

Feelings disregarded

In his report, Muhyidin claimed that the Petroleum Royalty Agreement dated March 22, 1975, stated that Petronas should pay the Terengganu state government, a five percent royalty for oil found in the state.

As such, he said, no o­ne else should question the legality of the agreement until or unless the courts or the Parliament decide otherwise, and all parties should not be making any statement about the royalty or any other special fund.

On March 5, Mohd Shafie was quoted by a daily as saying that the government was conducting a study o­n the possibility of using the oil revenue to develop other states as well.

This, according to Mohd Shafie, was because the oil rigs were found far off the Terengganu beach and as such, they belonged to the federal government.

He was reported to have made that statement after opening a joint Umno branch meeting at SMK Manir in the Teluk Pasu state constituency in Terengganu the day before.

Muhyidin said, by making such a statement, the deputy finance minister has disregarded the feelings of the Terengganu people.

The state PAS Youth, he said, believed any statement to that effect could cause dissatisfaction among the people and therefore could affect the spirit of federalism.

"As such, I call o­n the police to investigate the statement," he said in the report.
