The Perak government is going to table a social budget for 2011 to cater for the needs of the people in the coming Nov 30 state assembly sitting.

sivakumar and zambry at perak state assembly 130509 04 Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir ( right ) said, “The social budget - which will be a comprehensive budget - will be tailored to the welfare and needs of the civil society.”

Without giving details, he said the state government has identified some areas which will be improved in the proposals for the 2011 state budget.

He claimed this budget will be tailored for the society at large and will go down in history as a people-oriented budget.

When asked whether the 2011 state budget is a social budget or an election budget, his answer was, “Depends on the person you talk to… how you want to interpret it?”

“We have received input on the needs of the people (and are working towards it),” he said.

When asked whether the proposed state budget will be a deficit one like last year, he said, “I shall announce it officially whether it’s a deficit or surplus or break-even budget in the 2011 budget state assembly on Tuesday.”

But a BN insider who declined to be named said, “The 20111 budget will be a deficit budget but not at the figure given (by Nga Kor Ming) as RM50 million deficit.”

He declined to disclose the actual figures and said, “Wait for the Menteri Besar to announce it officially on Tuesday.”  

MB takes Nga to task

Earlier, Zambry took Nga to task without naming him, for giving a monologue criticism of the financial status of the state.

Nga had recently given a media statement alleging that the BN state government had tabled three deficit budgets within one year.

The DAP state secretary had said that Zambry had allegedly chalked up a total deficit of RM170 million during the state budget on Oct 28 last year a deficit of RM40 million, than an alleged RM80 million deficit on the supplementary budget on Aug 3 this year and another RM50 million alleged deficit expected to be tabled in the 2011 budget on Tuesday.

“The more he accuses us and the more lies he tells will make the people lose confidence in him,’ said Zambry, without elaborating on his statement.

“How can I possible table three deficit budgets in one year? “asked a puzzled Menteri Besar.

Zambry was speaking to the media after hosting the weekly state executive meeting here today.
