In an unusual statement today, DAP has said that outspoken Law Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz was preferable to MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek.

Lim said that comparing the two BN leaders, the DAP would be more willing to accept Nazri into the party, than it would Chua.

He quipped that Nazri, a lawyer and an Umno man, was not likely to be a “katak (frog)”.

“However, between the two, we would prefer Nazri instead of Chua,” he told reporters after attending a donation drive for the victims of tsunami in Japan at Straits Quay, Penang today.

Lim, who is Bagan MP, said Nazri was merely speaking the truth when he said he did not need the support of MCA and Gerakan in the general elections.

NONE He added that it was the two parties that actually needed Nazri’s help instead, as his rapport with the Chinese community was commendable.

Neither MCA nor Gerakan had never before helped deliver the Chinese votes to Nazri, said Lim.

He stressed that even the DAP would not be able to make inroads into the Chinese voters in Nazri’s constituency due to his personality.

“The Chinese in Padang Renggas are pro-Nazri because he deals with their issues and goes back to his constituency every week,” said Lim.

“By the way, when has the MCA ever represented the Chinese anyway...unlike the DAP, who wants to represent all Malaysians, and not just one community,” he added.

Nazri in hot soup

Nazri found himself in hot soup recently when an exclusive interview by local Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau quoted him lashing out at MCA for blaming Umno for its own failure to regain Chinese support.

He challenged MCA to quit the BN if it was not happy, instead of "scolding Umno every day".

Nazri criticised MCA for acting like a wife who keeps complaining to outsiders that she has been “detained, sexually abused and denied food by her husband, but she refuses to divorce".

MCA and Gerakan have been demanding an apology from Nazri over the comments, but he has since shifted the blame to the journalist who interviewed him, saying she had misunderstood his words.
