'Hitler' livens up Pakatan ceramah

With its big guns away in Sarawak, Pakatan Rakyat had to resort to unconventional means to satisfy a crowd that had gathered to hear PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim speak at a ceramah last night.
The audience of 3,500 at the 3K stadium in Subang Jaya was disappointed to learn that neither Anwar nor PKR deputy president Azmin would be coming.
But they left with broad grins after being regaled by a video clip poking fun at the infamous sex video that purportedly stars Anwar, which he has denied.
The video shows a scene from a movie depicting the downfall of the Third Reich and German dictator Adolf Hitler. It has made the rounds on Youtube subtitled in Malay and English to provide a commentary on various Malaysian issues.
Among these are the cow-head protest issue and the new ‘under-powered’ Proton models based on the Mitshubishi Lancer, which has been met with stiff resistance by Lancer enthusiasts.
The clip has been re-subtitled as a parody of the sex tape saga, depicting key government and BN figures said to be linked to scandal.
“This is something new. We thought they did not understand, but after viewing it for a while, they begin to get it,” said Seri Setia assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, organising chairperson of the ceramah .
“Not many have seen the video, (so) this is a good way to explain the issue to them.”
Screened before the ceramah began, the clip drew laughter, hoots and catcalls from the sophisticated urban audience of Subang Jaya, USJ and surrounding areas.
This was the first time the clip has been shown at a Pakatan
ceramah
, and pointed to a new strategy of using humour to deflect the latest attack against Anwar.
This was followed by a recording of speeches by Anwar and Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul delivered at a previous ceramah in Stadium Malawati Shah Alam, refuting the accusations of the ‘Datuk T’ trio.
Nik Nazmi, Subang Jaya PKR deputy chief Keshminder Singh, PAS vice-president Mohamad Sabu and Kelana Jaya PKR division head Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud then addressed the crowd.
Multi-lingual skills
Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim’s fluency in Chinese, Malay and Javanese moved the crowd to cheers and laughter. He sprinkled his speech with Malay idioms, Chinese phrases and Javanese words.
Ng and the other speakers repeated the Pakatan stance that the sex video is not authentic and that it was produced by those trying to distract the people from critical issues such as government abuses and rampant corruption.
While several plainclothes and uniformed police officers were observed monitoring the ceramah, they did not interfere as the organiser had obtained the necessary permits from the authorities.
The ceramah , which began about 8.30pm, ended about midnight. It also saw nearly RM9,500 raised from donations to fund Pakatan’s campaign in the next Kelana Jaya parliamentary election.
