Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein has again denied that Umno or BN are involved in the sex video allegedly involving an opposition leader despite a Merdeka Centre survey showing that many people believe the ruling party is behind it.

"I can clearly say that BN or the ministry is not involved in this, whatever the perception is," he said.

"Let the police investigate the matter and give the result of the investigation to the attorney-general."

Hishammuddin asked how one could say that the ruling party or the ministry were involved "when we are not behind it (the taping) and showing it".

He gave his assurance that the authorities were transparent in the investigation into the matter.

"Based on the police reports, the police have done their investigations. They looked at the tape and it will be forwarded to the Attorney-General's Chambers, which is the normal process investigations go through.

“I think that is the right way forward for the people to be convinced that BN or the government are not behind it,.

"Be consistent. Do not play to the gallery and just do your job. That’s what I have told the Inspector-General of Police and that is what he has done. At the end of the day, the truth will prevail,” the minister added.

azlan So far ‘Datuk T’, the name used by the trio of businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, Risda chairperson and former Malacca chief minister Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik and Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim, have admitted responsibility for screening the video.

Rahim was former a Umno Youth chief, while Shuib was a former MP and senator while in Umno.

Hishamuddin was speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and the United Kingdom on the expansion of bilateral relations and immigration matters between the two countries.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom in July.

'Umno and BN masterminded sex video'

According to the Merdeka Centre, a majority of Malaysians believe that Umno and BN masterminded the sex video scandal, with 39 per cent blaming Umno and BN, while 38 per cent admitted they did not know.

Only 18 per cent claimed BN or Umno was not involved in the telephone survey conducted by the centre.

Asked about Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh's suggestion that MPs view the tape in Parliament, in the presence of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, who has been accused of being the man in video, Hishammuddin, who is also an Umno vice-president, said he would leave this to Parliament to decide.

Yesterday, and today as well, Karpal called for the controversial video clip to be shown in Parliament and for Anwar to be present to view it, despite the opposition leader facing a six-month suspension.

Karpal who is also DAP chairperson, has also asked the MPs to vote on the screening of the video in Parliament according to their conscience.

The tape was shown to several journalists and politicians at Carcosa Seri Negara on March 21 and last Friday, Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said the tape had not been doctored .

Since the tape surfaced and with Anwar claiming that Umno and BN were behind it, Hishammuddin, who has continuously denied the involvement of the government or the ruling parties, has also threatened to file a suit against the opposition leader for his claim.
