Maverick Sarawak activist Hii Tiong Huat, who had been sent to the psychiatric ward of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) by the police last Friday, was discharged this afternoon.

NONE Hii ( right ) told Malaysiakini that he was allowed to leave the ward at 2.45pm after his wife flew from Sibu last night to take him back.

She was assisted by lawyer Yohendra Nadarajan to fight for Hii's discharge.

However, Hii said that he was not happy with the shoddy treatment he received and he is mulling legal action against both the police and hospital.

He said the police had sent him to psychiatric ward without his consent and knowledge.

"This is immoral, they have cheated me. I wanted the police to take me to hospital to examine my injury, but they sent me to the psychiatric ward instead."

He also expressed his anger with HKL for taking him as psycho and warding him for two days.

"The hospital had also abused their power. The doctors should have used their professional skills to ascertain that I am normal and allow me to leave."

Legal assistance

Hii said he and his wife will go back to Sibu on July 28 and he will seek assistance from a lawyer to file the suit.

Hii's wife, who did not want to reveal her full name, said the doctor had also "warned" Hii not to join any protest or political activities, otherwise the police would arrest him again.

"The doctor said I can bring him back, but he needs more follow-up. He also said it was the order from the police that we should go back to Sarawak immediately and should not get involved in any political activities or protests."

However, Nadarajan said he believed this was just friendly advice from the doctor.

Hii, who once contested in a Sarawak state election as independent candidate, was arrested by police last Friday - the third time in two weeks - for supporting Bersih 2.0.

NONE Hii was first arrested one day before the Bersih 2.0 rally for holding a one-man protest in Petaling Street, and was released after being held for five days.

He then lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam), claiming that the police had slapped him nearly 10 times while he was in their custody.

Unperturbed by the arrest, 'Uncle Bersih', as netizens call him after a YouTube video of him being arrested received hundreds of thousands of views, repeated the stunt at the entrance of the Pudu LRT station yesterday morning, resulting in his second arrest.

His third arrest took place soon after he was released.

According to Hii, he was arrested around 1pm while waiting at a bus stop with his self-made Bersih 2.0 signboard.

He claimed that he was not protesting but merely sitting at the bus stop.

Hii accused the police of pushing him to the ground during the arrest, causing him to suffer injuries on various parts of his body.

He had complained that when in HKL, his fellow patients in the psychiatric ward had wiped their saliva on his injuries, saying that it would cure them.

The Sarawak activist had contested in the 2011 Sarawak state election as an independent but lost his deposit.

He has also announced he will be running for Lanang parliamentary seat in the next general election.

Hii is well-known in Sibu for his eccentric behaviour and campaign gimmicks during the elections.
