Pakatan Rakyat today staged a protest against the Malacca local councils for sending councillors on publicly funded trips to Perth and China.

Assemblypersons Goh Leong San (Kesidang), Lim Jak Wong (Bachang), Tey Kok Kiew (Bandar Hilir) and Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him led the protest in front of the council’s headquarters at the Graha Makmur Building in Ayer Keroh today.

They were protesting the annual paid trips for municipal councillors from across Malacca for study-tours overseas, arguing that it was a waste of public funds.

NONE “They said that they were there to learn about flood mitigation, but flooding is still a problem, so we do not know what it is that they are learning over there,” sniped Goh, who is also the state opposition leader.

            

Also present were Kota Melaka PAS chief Harun Mohamed and the Islamic party’s Bukit Katil information chief Yusof Wahab.

The protest which took place for about five minutes almost exploded into a brawl when some BN supporters tried to provoke the demonstrators.

However, police managed to defuse the tense situation and the demonstration ended peacefully.
