MCA Selayang parliamentary seat coordinator Jessie Ooi, who is dubbed as ‘Ms Tow Truck’ by some netizens, has cancelled her plan to hold a press conference tonight, just an hour after her aide had send out a media notice to the press earlier.

According to the second media notice which was sent through email at 3.45pm today, the press conference is cancelled because Ooi “is not feeling well”.

“Tonight’s press conference is cancelled because Jessie Ooi is not feeling well. We will send another press statement for the media.

“If there is a press conference later, we will send out another notice,” the email reads.

In a text message to a Malaysiakini reporter, Ooi also apologised for the press conference’s cancellation and said she will send a press statement in “a short while”.

Previously at 2.23pm, Ooi’s aide had informed the media through email that the MCA activist will hold a press conference at 7pm tonight at a restaurant in Selayang, to respond to “the issue raised in FB ( Facebook ) and newspapers”.

Little known before Saturday’s debate between MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Ooi has become an Internet sensation of sorts because of the manner in which she posed a question to Lim, as well as its content.

ms tow truck jessie ooi 190212 Netizens were pouring scorn over the incredulous and incoherent nature of her tirade, along with the fact that Penang’s assessment rates had not changed since 2007.

But more importantly, her critics honed in on her remark about a car-towing incident and have nicknamed her ‘Ms Tow Truck’.

They pointed out flaws in Ooi’s argument, such as her assertion that there are no cars on the road after 10.30pm and that there should not be enforcement work late at night.

DAP leaders also demanded that she apologise and retract the misleading statement.

‘No chance to rest despite being caught in the rain’

When contacted later, Ooi explained that she is having a headache because she has had no chance to rest despite caught in the rain the day before.

“I feel sorry for not able to meet you and answer your questions.”

She also added that she will issue a statement in a short while and hold another press conference after she has recovered.

“There are many misleading thing on the Internet and I never said those things. They also put my family photo on the Internet.

“I will respond through a statement first, and then followed by a press conference.”
