It is Islamic to accept Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's apology over BN's past wrongs - but only if this is followed with the reinstatement of the rakyat's rights that have been denied, PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan said today.

Speaking to reporters at the party's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Nasrudin said if not, the apology would be just like someone who "steals a motorcycle, says sorry, but doesn't give it back".

It's not just about apologising, but the rights that have been denied, like oil royalty belonging to the people of Terengganu and Kelantan, must be returned.

"The same applies to compensation for victims of the Internal Security Act as well as the state of Perak, which was siezed by Umno/BN in an undemocratic manner."

The prime minister has, in the past month during road-shows in Kedah and Selangor, apologised twice for the previous mistakes made by the BN government.

Following through with his motorcycle analogy, Nasrudin said that if what rightfully belongs to the rakyat is not returned, the rakyat can be weary of losing even more.

“If a man who steals the motorcycle is forgiven without the motorcycle returned, the next time he’ll steal our Astro decoder, and then our refrigerator so that in the end we are left with only the pillars in our homes.

“We don’t want our emotions to be trapped and toyed with by this apology,” he said.

He added that Najib’s choice of going to the ground to repeatedly apologise also signifies that BN is expecting a heated battle in the next general election.

“Someone who apologises doesn’t necessarily admit fault. And doing it repeatedly is strange (buang tabiat)...He could have broadcast his apology over television,” he said.
