Welcoming Shahrizat's decision to quit her ministerial job on April 8, MCA Youth deputy secretary-general Loh Chew June said both police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must continue to investigate whether Shahrizat's family committed corruption and power abuse in relation to the NFC scandal.
"If there is indeed corruption or fraud in NFC's government loan, the relevant individuals must be charged in court.
"Shahrizat's decision to resign is a good thing for BN to move towards political transformation. I hope after she stops being a minister, she should not contest in the next general election unless she is cleared of the NFC scandal," Loh said.
In another statement, Gerakan vice president Mah Siew Keong (
right
) also welcomed Shahrizat's decision.
"She is doing the right thing for the best interest of BN government and we are glad that she finally decided to do so," said Mah.
The party's interest is more important than individual interest at any time, he said.
"We are now facing a tough election and we all need to focus to get the best results for BN," Mah added.
However, Umno publicity chief Ahmad Maslan said Shahrizat's service was still much needed in Umno Wanita and BN Wanita.
"This is because many recognise her persistence and efforts since she took over the post," Ahmad said in a statement today.
He urged MACC to immediately announce the outcome of the investigation to clear Shahrizat's name if she is found innocent.
In her announcement yesterday, Shahrizat said she would continue to serve as Umno and BN Wanita chief, a post she has been holding since 2009.
