What resignation? Her term expires in April

YOURSAY 'When anybody's term is up, they step down unless asked to stay. So basically, she has done nothing more than tell us what we already know.'

Shahrizat to step down next month

Vijay47: Step down? What rubbish is that? Minister Sharhizat Abdul Jalil, your appointment as senator expires in April and you will then ride off into the sunset and the RM250 million.

I am very curious to know where the sacrifice, accountability and decency come in.

Nik V: Does this sound like some kind of public relations gibberish? Is Shahrizat stepping down after her senatorship term expires? Isn't that some kind of reverse, oxymoronic and redundant statement?

When anybody's term is up, they step down unless asked to stay. So basically she has done nothing more than called a press conference to tell us what we already know. No accountability. Nothing's changed.

Bluemountains: The question before us is whether or not an offence has been committed by the person/persons involved.

If so, the law must be allowed to take its own course. Shahrizat should not be made the scapegoat to absolve the wrongdoings of other people in and outside the government.

The rakyat want nothing short of a royal commission of inquiry to know the real culprits.

Freemsia: Asked if she was a casualty of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) scandal, she replied: "I want to say one thing very clearly, that I really have nothing to do with NFC.

"But as a responsible member of the government, I feel the right thing for me to do is for me to step down graciously," she said.

If she still says she is not involved in the NFC scandal, then why she must feel that the right thing is to step down graciously? Isn't that kind of an admission of guilt?

Onyourtoes: You are going to step down graciously? I don't think you even know the meaning of that word.

Seriously, I cannot remember a single thing of what you have done for women, family and community development during your three years as the minister.

All I could remember for the rest of my life is to associate you with ‘lembu', condo, supermarket, soft loan and rolling up your sleeves and wailing that PKR strategy chief Rafizi Ramli was a traitor to your race and religion.

FellowMalaysian: Her leaving the minister's post is expected and her announcement a month before the due date is a face-saving gesture presumably to tell her detractors, especially the opposition parties, that she takes responsibility for the NFC issue even though she had again denied her involvement.

What is unexpected is her brazen decision to stay on as Wanita Umno head. This, I believe, came about after her recent talks with her boss, PM Najib Razak.

To leave Wanita at this stage spells disaster for Umno, which will be battling soon with the opposition in the coming GE13.

Shahrizat will be blazing through the streets soon like a horse-cart on fire in her attempt to win over much-needed support to shore up her defence against the onslaught of attacks on NFC.

Kee Thuan Chye: It's not good for her to be no longer a minister. It would serve Pakatan Rakyat's cause better if she remained.

In any case, the pressure on the NFC must continue. After all, it's not so much about her but about the abuse of power and abuse of public funds inherent in that case.

Now the possibility is that after BN wins the next general election, she can still be made a minister - even if she doesn't stand for elections. She can be made a senator again and come in through the back door.

I doubt the likelihood is great, though. If Najib reinstated her, he would be seen as a PM who ignores the public's feelings since she's already tainted.

Survivor: What you mean by wanting to resign long ago? You forgot about your sleeve-folding stance? Were you not hiding behind the Wanita Umno with your combative composure? Come on, admit it.

Your Umno cahoots think you are a liability. Indeed, you should also resign from the chairmanship of Wanita Umno.

By the way, you are to be accountable for for all the wrongdoings relating to NFC. Return every single sen of the rakyat's RM250 million.

Supercession: Surrounding yourself with children does not in any way attenuate the fact of your family's corruption and your complicity. Resign from your cabinet post and you think that's sufficient? Think again!

Mirror thyself: Shahrizat stepping down as cabinet minister. Two scenarios are likely to happen:

a) The NFC case will be closed or classified as ‘no further action'.

b) Shahrizat will be given a golden handshake for her bravery to step down and all are forgotten and forgiven.

Black Mamba: What resignation? Her term expired in April. Stop sugar coating about sacrifice. Sacrifice is returning the loan and work in the cow ranch for free.
