VOXPOP 'DBKL is like the Umno civil service. Letters take about two weeks to reach the intended addressee.'
KL mayor: No, I haven't heard from Bersih
Disgusted:
Who needs KL mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail permission for the protest? Do Perkasa, Umno and their NGOs apply to the police or City Hall to protest in Kuala Lumpur?
Obviously not, and they were allowed to protest - and violently sometimes. The police and City Hall merely stood by and watched, and might even have protected them if someone else attacked them.
So come April 28, we will all assemble to support Bersih 3.0 with or without City Hall's permission.
Jeremy Ng: The mayor is totally irresponsible. If there is business lost, he should be blamed for closing the areas. By right, the traders should be doing a roaring business with the presence of the student demonstrators.
Onyourtoes: Between Bersih co-chairperson S Ambiga and the mayor, who do we trust? Mayor, do you know how many MPs are there from Pakatan Rakyat in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur?
What credential and expertise do you have to sit on that high chair making nonsensical statements?
You are no difference from the warlords of the old appointed by evil kings and emperors to subjugate the rakyat.
Free And Fair Election: Ahmad Fuad Ismail, I was at the countdown in Dataran Merdeka to welcome 2012 and there was no need to apply for anything.
Unless you are trying to apply double standards with Bersih 3.0, you better get applications and approvals from past events ready for the press to see.
Lim Chong Leong: DBKL is like the Umno civil service. Letters take about two weeks to reach the intended addressee. And another two weeks for him to respond.
Bersih, your letter will be deemed too late for processing. So there will be no permit for you. Anyway, who needs their permit to gather in our own place?
Kelantanese: It makes no difference whether you have heard from Bersih or not. The people know who you are and what game you play.
Come April 28, Dataran Merdeka will belong to the rakyat.
'No guarantee security laws won't be abused'
Ksn: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz, if you, a cabinet minister in charge of the government's legal affairs, are not sure that the provisions of the new Act will not be abused, why provide and include such clauses in the new Act in the first place?
What sort of message are you conveying to the country? With such arbitrary provisions in the new Act being just as bad or worse than the ISA, why amend the ISA at all?
Perhaps Nazri care to enlighten us on these few doubts we have.
Mr KJ John: Yes, today many ‘idiocratic' public officials do not know the law or do not care to know them, because they can rule by the law.
Sarajun Hoda: The police can always arrest a person solely for his or her political activities or affiliations under the disguise of 'trying to topple the government' by illegal means or even 'derhaka kepada raja' (treason against the king).
If there is room for abuse, the room should be demolished. Doesn't justice mean letting one go for lack of evidence is better than punishing an innocent?
And there is a big difference between laws that can be abused and laws that are made to be abused. BN has no will and has run out of wisdom. But Pakatan should not be too alarmed.
Come the next GE, before the ISA is abolished, Pakatan might want the corrupt BN members to taste their own medicine should it take power.
An Indian saying goes, when you cannot take the ‘ghee' from the bottle, bend the spoon a little. You may need them to dig truths.
2cts Worth: Going by the modus operandi of Umno, certainly the new security law will be abused. Either by their misinterpretation or just by blatant abuse. The power is in their hands: one day it's black, and another day it could be white.
Bumiasli: Congratulations Nazri. What you are saying is that laws are made to be broken, just like the promises made by politicians.
Does this answer the question of whether the police will abuse the ‘special powers' given to them under the new security law?
Actually what is the necessity of these special powers for police; the existing powers that the police have are sufficient to maintain law and order in our country.
So what's this new game all about? Let's wait and see.
Jedi_Who: Look who's talking. Nazri abused the laws so that his son could avoid ending up in a police lockup for allegedly being involved in beating up a security guard.
Anonymous #60202292: Nazri, the guarantee against abuse lies with the formation of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC). Period.
