University Malaya will be subjecting three students to disciplinary hearings over their participation in a protest march against the National Higher Education Loan Fund (PTPTN).

"I just received the letter today asking me to attend a hearing on May 3 and Haziq and Safwan will pick up their letters soon.

"We are being accused for bringing a bad name to the university under the Universities and University Colleges Act (UUCA)," he said.

Mohd Syahid is a final year Islamic political science student while Safwan is a third year Islamic studies student and Haziq Abdullah is a first year law student.

A group of students activists held a procession in Kuala Lumpur on April 14 to voice their position on PTPTN. 

The procession culminated at Dataran Merdeka, where they began their sit-in protest. 

They claim that PTPTN was a badly administered government loan scheme for tertiary education that should be scraped and the government should provide free tertiary education.

Their occupation has entered the 13th day today. There has been numerous conflict with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). Six individuals have been arrested thus far.

The students are expected to camp at the square until the Bersih 3.0 rally on April 28.

Another group, Occupy Dataran which advocates to reclaim public space has also been camping out at Dataran Merdeka alongside the students.
