MCA president Chua Soi Lek has accused DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng of acting in an unethical manner during their debate session today.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Chua said Lim failed to answer several pressing questions posed to him, and instead attacked cabinet ministers from MCA who had no chance of replying during the debate.

“The other thing that is unfair is that he hit MCA ministers when he knows they don't have the chance to go up (to stage) and reply.”

“That is very unethical in a debate. Normally we don't do that. That's not the norm. We debate, you talk about what I say, you rebut what I say.”

In his closing remarks for the debate, Lim brought up the delay in upgrading works for the Penang airport and the downgrading of Penang’s port to a feeder port.

This was a clearly a swipe against MCA secretary-general Kong Cho Ha, the transport minister, although it was Chua who had raised the issue of privatising Penang Port.

lim chua debate 080712 Lim also did not spare the likes of Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen and Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai, who were the butt of Lim’s jokes about their recent controversies.

On whether the MCA will issue a gag order to prevent members from making statements about Lim’s alleged affair with his former staff member, Chua said this will not happen.

“The one who his dragging the issue is Lim and his wife,” said Chua.

DAP: No mention of sex-tape

The matter first gained major publicity after Malacca MCA chief Gan Tian Loo raised the issue at the state legislative assembly.

Gan, the Duyong state assemblyperson, had asked Lim’s wife and Kota Laksamana assemblyperson Betty Chew whether she knew a certain former staff of her husband’s.

chua lim debate 080712 Lim has denied MCA’s allegations and challenged Gan to repeat his claims outside the state assembly, where he does not have legal immunity.

At a separate press conference after the debate, Lim said DAP will not use personal issues against Chua, despite him admitting to committing adultery back in early 2008.

“When Chua had his video (scandal), we never abused it in Parliament. We know his children had a hard time.

“How can (MCA) do this to us, when you know it is a lie?” asked Lim of MCA’s attempts to stir controversy.

At the end of the debate today, it was noted that MCA supporters chanted “Xiao Hong” in reference to the mystery woman.

DAP supporters, in retaliation, chanted “CD” in reference to the video of Chua’s tryst that had sparked his scandal.
