PKR is demanding that the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) reveals its detailed budget for crime reduction under the National Key Results Areas (NKRA).

NONE Only then can Pemandu prove that it has not spent the bulk of the funds on managing perception and not on crime busting, PKR investment and trade bureau chief Wong Chen said today.

"It says the (RM171 million) is to put more police on the streets, but that would fall under emoluments.

"Don't bullshit me with some story. Give us the full data," Wong said.

Asked if the party had asked Pemandu for the budget before, Wong said PKR had not.

He said going through Parliament would mean having to wait for its next sitting.

'Pemandu annual report too does not have details'

NONE "Pemandu is supposed to be promoting transparency. Even its annual report doesn't have details," he said.

Also at the press conference was party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who said Pemandu had mistakenly thought she meant 71 percent of its budget was spent on "public relations".

"If Pemandu wants to nitpick on the terminology of public relations, surely the goal of increased public satisfaction with the police must fall under its own definition of public relations.

azlan “The budget allocated for that is RM27 million, which is 11.25 percent of the operating budget," Wan Azizah said.

She also called on Pemandu, which comes under the Prime Minister's Department, to take action against crime and not on perception, and to stop making "misleading statements".

Pemandu said yesterday that it only spent 0.75 percent of its budget on public relations, via awareness campaigns in schools, etc.

It also noted that most of its budget went into reducing fear of crime as the actual budget for crime busting was allocated directly to the police force and did not come under the NKRA.
