Umno Youth has slammed DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s refusal to censure his party’s Perak chief Ngeh Ko Ham, who had allegedly questioned Muslims’ protest against the anti-Islam film ‘Innocence of Muslims’.

NONE Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar said Lim’s inaction gives a “clear picture” that it reflects DAP’s stance and sentiments.

“If the DAP secretary-general is a responsible boss, he would issue a statement unconditionally that what Ngeh did was unacceptable,” he told a press conference this morning.

Lim had declined to comment on the Setiawan assemblyperson’s tweet when asked by reporters yesterday, but instead asked for his statement on the issue to be published first.

“What kind of statement is that if you care about the sensitivities of Muslims? (Lim) just needs to issue a statement that what Ngeh did was wrong and disassociate the party from his statement.

“But even with that, he wants to play politics,” he said,

adding that the issue needed a strong statement from DAP.

Umno Youth understands, but...

Ngeh in his tweet had asked, “Khairy wants Muslims (to) protest against Sam Bacile. For Islam or for his political gains? Are Muslims wasting too much time and energy on this?”

At the press conference, Khairy said Umno Youth is “not too stupid” to understand his tweet’s imputations that Muslims are wasting time protesting against film, although Ngeh tried to dodge the issue by saying that his tweet was written as a question.

“I don’t need to answer (at length on this), even those among his colleagues in PAS have answered and condemned his statement.

“And I also believe that this was not his personal statement,” he said.

Ngeh had since apologised for his tweet later this afternoon.
