Records of 4,882 voters who were registered in the wrong parliamentary constituency have been rectified between January last year and August this year.

In a parliamentary written reply, de facto Law Minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz said the Election Commission (EC) is legally bound to act on complaints of such errors.

NONE According to a table included in the reply, the bulk of the corrections, totalling 1,015, were made in Sarawak.

Strangely, the gap in Sarawak - 782 corrections in 2011 and 233 corrections in 2012 - were very wide compared to other states. State elections were held in 2011.

The second largest number of corrections, 819, were recorded in Selangor.

Nazri was responding on behalf of the prime minister to a question by Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan, who had asked for a breakdown of voters who have been relocated on grounds that they were erroneously registered in the wrong constituency.

Fong also wanted the number of voters who had been notified by post of their relocation by the EC, but Nazri did not furnish the figure.

“Voters who have been involved in the correction exercise have been notified through various means such as telephone, post and email,” he said.
