Four bus drivers involved in the illegal SMRT strike on Monday and Tuesday were arrested and charged in court this afternoon.

In response to the media queries, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said in a statement that the drivers allegedly instigated their fellow employees to participate in the illegal strike.

Their action adversely impacted essential public transport services - commuters were affected, even as other bus drivers worked to help ensure the services continued to run, despite the disruptions.

According to MOM, the illegal strikes are not acceptable and have undermined the industrial harmony the country has built over the years.

“These alleged instigators must be dealt with, in accordance to our laws,” said MOM.

MOM said investigations were still ongoing and that the ministry would work closely with the police on the matter.

Since Monday, MOM’s labour relations officers have been in close contact with SMRT’s human resources and senior management.
