The Penang Port Commission (PPC) will take over the operations of the Swettenham Pier Cruise Ship Terminal and Tanjung City Marina from Penang Port Sdn Bhd beginning next year.

PPC general manager Noor Ariff Yusoff said the takeover would also involve the rehabilitation of the Tanjung City Marina by rearranging the positioning of the pontoon to enable the place to operate again.

"As a short-term plan, we will rehabilitate Tanjung City Marina. The marina comprises three parts, the Church Street Pier, the clubhouse and the marina itself. The clubhouse and Church Street Pier are in good condition.

"It's just the marina, because it is a pontoon, it's in the sea and there had been several storms in 2009 that cause big problems to the marina.

"The main building, where the restaurant and entertainment area are located, is still in good condition.

"We will see how we can rearrange the pontoon and next year we will start rehabilitation work," Noor Ariff told a media conference in George Town today.
