Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim is unlikely to contest for any seat in Perak in the coming general election.

A senior state PKR leader said although Anwar himself had announced that he was thinking of contesting for a seat in Perak or Selangor instead of defending his current Permatang Pauh seat, the chances of him choosing Perak was extremely slim.

"Talks that Anwar ( right ) wants to contest the Gopeng seat are just speculations.”

He, however, did not discount the possibility that the announcement made by Anwar was a political game to create panic within Umno.

He said as for now, Anwar’s Permatang Pauh seat is still deemed safe for Pakatan Rakyat and for that reason Anwar is looking to go for seats which are more risky.

“It would be better for him if he defends Permatang Pauh this time around, but there are suggestions within the party for him to stand for another seat to help the party,” he said.

He said chances are higher that Anwar would be chosen to contest a seat in Selangor but getting him the right seat seems to be a problem.

“They are scouting for a suitable seat in Selangor for him to contest... but so far nothing has come along, ” he said.
