BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak has told election hopefuls not to “sulk” for more than 24 hours if they have not been selected for a seat to contest.

NONE “We will try to reduce this problem (of sulking). That is why, in my speech, I said those disappointed can only do so for 24 hours. After that, they must go to the ground,” Najib said.

He was speaking at a press conference following a closed-door briefing with BN component party leaders in Kuala Lumpur today.

Najib also said that any Independent candidate who is deemed qualified may contest under a BN ticket.

“If we feel there is room and they can be accepted and can contest, (therefore) they can contest on a BN ticket.

“We need to do so based on adjustments. Maybe there is a seat or two that can be swapped."

However, he said that there would be no seat additions to be made in view of the already large number of candidates vying for each seat.

“We take into consideration what we can. Not all (Independents) can be taken as we do not have additional seats.

"There are already so many candidates waiting for the existing seats.”

'Najib has the final say'

Approached by reporters after the press conference, MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek said that "sulky" hopefuls are only to be expected as the number of seats is limited.

NONE When asked if he will be contesting, Chua replied, “Do not talk about me, talk about BN.

“There are no final decisions yet. Najib does not have the final decision.

Chua ( right ) was obviously not happy about a question which had been posed to him, wherein he was asked on how many seats MCA will be contesting, although he has said that it is up to Najib to decide on the MCA seats.

"You must understand that the PM has the final say (on MCA's seats)," he said, adding that the BN chief will make the decision based on his political wisdom for the interests of the party.

"The PM has already told you people that there is no final decision yet, why must you keep on repeating the same thing again and again? That's not fair to us," he fumed.

"So, you don't have to be so busybody, hoping that I will say something different from the PM, which you can (spin to) inflict a crisis," he accused.
