A "special team" has been set up to produce videos to tarnish the public image of certain political leaders, Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia president Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir said today.

NONE In a statement issued today, Kadir ( left ) said he had information that this team received funding and "special compensation" from certain parties.

"They are experts who can pick certain videos from the Internet and later merge them in a way that they resemble certain leaders.

"The techniques to release such slanderous videos can be done ever so easily nowadays," said Kadir, a former federal information minister, who last year ended his 56-year alliance with Umno.

He also expressed his confidence that the people would reject these political tactics.

"I am confident that all Malaysians can criticise and feel disgusted with such political campaigns. I hope this can be stopped immediately," he added.

Kadir said politics in the country had been conducted in a "gentlemanly and clean manner" for decades.

NONE "After 50 years (of independence) we should be more adult and mature in our politics," said the 73-year-old politician.

He said PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali, who became the latest victim in the sex video scheme, should be "patient and strong" in facing such "disgusting lies".

"I know (Mustafa) personally, when he was PAS Youth chief in the early 70s. He has always been a clean, moral and principled man with a very happy family," Kadir said.

He was confident, he added, that respect for Mustafa ( above ) from PAS members, and also from Malaysians, would be heightened after this latest episode.
