Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the rally organised by opposition parties at the Kelana Jaya stadium last night was because they could not accept the defeat in Sunday's 13th general election.

"If they didn’t lose, of course they won’t protest. This is difficult, trying to pressure the government, trying to create problems. But actually, I’m glad that they are doing it inside a stadium.

"But I’m quite sure very soon, they will move from the stadium and take to the streets and cause lot of problems to business people and traders especially hawkers," he said.

He added that he had received information that financial assistance had been chanelled into Malaysia by foreign parties like George Soros and several European nations including Germany but he did not know who the recipients were.

Dr Mahathir said this to reporters after receiving the ‘Master Foreign Going’ award which carries the title of captain from the Malaysia Harbour Pilots Association (MHAPA) in Shah Alam last night.

The rally, which was attended by thousands of opposition supporters, was aimed at protesting the GE13 results after the Pakatan Rakyat failed to get the mandate to form the federal government.

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who spoke at last night’s rally, said they would be organising similar rallies in Ipoh (tomorrow) and Penang (on Saturday).
