Umno communications chief Ahmad Maslan feels a revamp is not needed for the whole coalition.

"Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is one out of 13 BN component parties that won all 14 seats contested.

NONE "What needs to be revamped are the Chinese-based parties," said Ahmad ( left ), pointing out that MCA and Gerakan did not win many of the seats contested.

He said the opposition would have taken Putrajaya had it not been for the efforts of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over the past five years.

"We (BN) will have to conduct more workshops and forums to figure out how to strike a balance between strengthening and maintaining the support of bumiputras and other races while also regaining the support of the Chinese," he said.

MIC youth chief T Mohan, meanwhile, said any change must not be for purely cosmetic reasons.

"If there is going to be change in name alone, it would not do much good as the people will notice it. I believe BN should change its current policies instead," he said.

NONE Mohan ( right ) suggested local government elections be revived as one of the many ways for BN to reengage itself with the people.

Putera MIC coordinator, P Kamalanathan, said BN will have to delve into the psyche of Malaysians and model itself to suit their expectations.

"Political parties by nature need to constantly reinvent themselves to suit the changing electorate, and BN is aware that it needs to transform.

"We have already begun the process, and a name change is a possibility, but more reflection is needed before a decision," he said.

The Hulu Selangor MP agreed to the revival of local government elections but said more thought should go into it.
