Singaporeans experienced clearer skies today as the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) dipped to 85, a moderate level as at 4pm today, according to the National Environment Agency (NEA).

This is the lowest reading since Thursday.

PSI was still at a very unhealthy stage at 322 as at 11am today, but has been gradually reduced since then.

The PSI reached the hazardous level of 401 as at noon yesterday, hitting a new all-time high.

Over the weekend, NEA however predicted hazy conditions were still expected as dry conditions and winds from the southwest or west persist.

The prevailing winds continue to bring over dense smoke haze from fires in central Sumatra to Singapore.

Earlier, it was reported that SMRT Corporation Ltd (SMRT), a transport service provider, will reduce its train speed due to low visibility caused by the haze.

SMRT said its trains will be travelling at slower speeds along the North South East West Line (NSEWL).

“Passenger safety is a priority. We ask that all commuters make provision for additional travelling time as train speeds are reduced,” the operator said in its Facebook posting.
