DAP: Muhyiddin should act on Bernama and NST
The authorities have been urged to take action against Bernama and NST for publishing false news about Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin blaming non-Muslims for the dog trainer video row.
The authorities have been urged to take action against Bernama and NST for publishing false news about Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin blaming non-Muslims for the dog trainer video row.
In a press release today, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said he believed that Muhyiddin was a “victim” of lies perpetuated by the two news organisations.
“DAP believes in Muhyiddin and that both NST and Bernama lied to stoke racial tensions by creating enmity, hatred and feat between Muslims and non-Muslims.
“Only by punishing these news organisations will they stop spreading such lies that threaten the very fabric of Malaysian nation-building and unity,” he said.
Yesterday, Bernama clarified that Muhyiddin did not specify non-Muslims nor the controversial dog trainer video clip in his July 30 speech, despite Bernama , NST and Sin Chew Daily reporting otherwise.
Lim also urged for action to be taken against Utusan Malaysia for publishing a report claiming that Selangor acting police chief A Thaiveegan had warned that those spreading the photograph of SK Sri Pristina shower room-cum-canteen row could be probed for sedition.
Lim said that the three publications could be charged under Section 8A of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984. The penalty under this law is a maximum RM20,000 fine, three year jail term or both.
However, Lim expressed doubts that the authorities will take action against three news organisations due to their allegiance to BN.
“No action was taken against Utusan Malaysia for openly calling for the bloody May 13 racial riots that killed thousands of innocent Malaysians to be celebrated as a holy day.
“Witness the failure to punish Perkasa leaders Ibrahim Ali and Zulkifli Noordin for their calls respectively to burn the Bible and make insults against Hindus,” said Lim.
