Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor today gave the assurance that the Sri Muneswarar Kaliyaman Hindu temple in Jalan P Ramlee will not be demolished.

He said the compound of the 101-year-old temple would be beautified instead and a fence built around the temple.

Only a small portion of the canteen and an illegally-erected restaurant adjacent to the temple would be demolished.

“We will build a fence and beautify the temple compound,” he told reporters after a visit to the temple.

Tengku Adnan was accompanied by the deputy minister, J Loga Bala Mohan; People’s Progressive Party (PPP) senior vice-president Maglin Dennis D’Cruz and PPP Federal Territory chairman A Chandrakumanan.  

Yesterday, several committee members of the temple and leaders of Indian parties prevented Kuala Lumpur City Hall personnel from demolishing the illegal extensions adjacent to the temple.
