A new state ministry has been proposed to address the frequent shortage of water and electricity supply in Sabah.

Dr Hiew King Cheu (Bebas-Luyang) said addressing the problem as soon as possible was crucial to lure more investors into the state.

“It is high time that a new state ministry be set up for the purpose of ensuring these two vital public utilities are properly addressed.

“Without sufficient water and power supply for the future, there will be problems in getting more investors for our industries, such as tourism and even agriculture,” he said when debating the 2014 State Budget at the Sabah state legislative assembly in Kota Kinabalu today.

Hiew, who spoke in English, said Sabah had endured enough of decades of water shortage and frequent power cuts.

He hoped his proposal would be well received by the state government.
