The Selangor government will in a week's time disclose the full text of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the water restructuring deal that it signed with Putrajaya last week.

Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the decision to do so was made following a meeting with Energy, Green Technology and Water (Kettha) Minister Maximus Ongkili and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Putrajaya yesterday.

This, he said, would enable the people to evaluate the deal for themselves.

“I believe the MOU can be disclosed soon. The reply from the minister was that this is general information and will not have any influence (to affect) state or national security, and so it can be done (disclosed),” Khalid said after chairing the state executive council meeting in Shah Alam today.

After presenting the MOU, the menteri besar said he would also release the initial agreement, or heads of agreemeent, which the state and federal governments agreed last night that they would sign.

The agreement, according to Khalid, contains more detailed and comprehensive information on the water restructuring exercise in Selangor.

“Seeing how Selangor has already approved the Freedom of Information Enactment, there is a process (to present the agreement),” he said.

Khalid said the Heads of Agreement will flesh out details of the  water industry restructure.

 
"At the meeting in Putrajaya yesterday, we agreed that Kettha will represent the federal government and Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd (KDEB) will represent the state government

 

"Kettha and KDEB will together draft the Heads of Agreement which is expected to be signed soon," he added in a statement later.

 

Khalid said he will inform Selangor economic advisor Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Rakyat leaders of this.

 

He said that Ongkili also intends to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for water supply mitigation works in Kuala Selangor on Mar 15.

The system is expected to supply 600 million litres and will alleviate water shortages until the Langat 2 water treatment plant is completed.
