Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has described the friction among some PKR leaders arising from the water memorandum of understanding (MOU) as “usual drama” which also occurs in other political parties.

He told reporters today that the state government is convinced that it can win over its detractors as it is committed to transparency.

“The people are starting to find out (the content of the water MOU) and how important it is,” he said.

“I am very confident and this is the fourth time I am saying this. This would happen in any other party, so the issue does not arise. I feel that we will get even more support than before. Friction in politics is just usual drama.”

He was asked if the PKR’s criticism of the manner in which the MOU was concluded would affect the party’s chances in the Kajang by-election.

Khalid is the party’s election director for the polls on March 23.

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and director of strategy Rafizi Ramli (left) had urged the state government to reveal the full MOU, insisting that the party had been left out of the loop over this matter.

Rafizi had published a copy of the purported MOU - a classified document under the Official Secrets Act - on his website.

However, the state executive council has denied that this is the document that was signed.

Khalid had earlier explained that Selangor could not disclose the full MOU because it is not the only party involved, and that it would also require the consent of the federal government.

Today, he announced that the document will be made public next week after completion of processes under the state's Freedom of Information Enactment to declassify the document.
