One of the leading groups against the Kinrara-Damansara Skyway (Kidex) project said Pakatan Rakyat state assemblypersons and councillors in Petaling Jaya appear to have lost control of its own government in Selangor.

 

Say No to Kidex (SNTK) secretary David Yoong said this seemed to be the case after the state assemblypersons and councillors promised that Friday's  chaotic meeting  with the public would not be a town hall meeting that will contribute to the fulfillment of requirements for the project.

 

Yoong said, on the contrary, the meeting on that day appeared to be a valid town hall meeting that would allow the Kidex project to move a step closer to approval, forcing residents to turn confrontational and force a cancellation of the event.

 

"We would like to impress upon the Petaling Jaya state assemblypersons and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillors that the sequence of events leading up to the confrontation painted them as either not in control of their own government (at best) or untruthful (at worst).

 

"As ratepayers, we deserve an answer to the conduct of the local council and expect the full investigation into the miscommunication," he said in a statement today.

 

A day before the meeting, the party whip of councillors for MBPJ had stressed the event was nothing more than a briefing and was not part of the statutory process to have the Kidex project included Selangor State Structure Plan.

 

However, Yoong insisted that this was not the case, pointing out that Kidex Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Mohd Nor Idrus ( right ) who was present on that day, had described the event as a town hall meeting.

 

'Not as promised'

 

Furthermore, he said the event, which was attended by MBPJ engineering department director Ismail Shafie together with Kidex officials, saw the emcee announcing the meeting to be "part of the due process in the implementation of Kidex into the Selangor State Structural Plan".

 

"This was not what the invitation said and to attempt to frame it in such a manner was disingenuous of both Kidex Sdn Bhd and MBPJ.

 

"The SNTK committee wishes to reiterate that we are not intentionally confrontational but was provoked into action because of the attempt at misrepresentation that would have hoodwinked Petaling Jaya residents of their rights," he said.

 

The event in Petaling Jaya on Friday turned chaotic after residents went ballistic after the event was introduced as being part of the due process.

 

The ensuing pandemonium eventually forced organisers to abort the event.

 

Kidex is a RM2 billion elevated expressway project which will begin from Bukit Jalil Highway and extend until Damansara, cutting through the heart of Petaling Jaya.
