TELUK INTAN Despite being heckled and chased away by a group of youths on motorcycles earlier, DAP's Teluk Intan by-election candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud returned to Padang Tembak later in the night for her ceramah.

Seemingly unfazed by the incident , which took place as she and DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang were greeting voters at a market in Padang Tembak yesterday evening, Dyana said she had made a commitment to the residents of Teluk Intan by offering herself as a candidate.

Therefore, she said, such threats would not weaken her spirit, although she admitted to being scared at the time.

“I can be vilified, accused, anything won't work, as I've already said I am here for the people of Teluk Intan,” Dyana said during her ceramah at the house compound of a PAS supporter in Padang Tembak last night.

She said the test was a small one compared with that faced by the likes of Lim, for whom she had served as political secretary prior to her candidacy, and former DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh in their many years in politics.

"For 40 years (they) fought for the rakyat - not for personal gain and they were not even awarded any projects," she said.

Dyana had earlier claimed that the youths in question had told her to “get out” and had been trying to reach her and Lim, but were prevented from doing so by DAP security personnel.

Police were later called in and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said BN would investigate the matter to determine if the hecklers were BN members.

'I do not reject hudud'

Dyana ended her ceramah by urging the voters to “send” her to Parliament so that she may represent them there.

This was greeted with a cheeky response by one of the attendees, who yelled out, "don’t reject hudud".

The DAP candidate responded with a smile and said: "I did not reject hudud, read again my previous statement."

In an interview with Malaysiakini , Dyana, a lawyer, stressed that she was not against hudud but opined that its implementation in Malaysia is not feasible until socio-economic issues are addressed.
