The Public Works Department (PWD) is closely monitoring three development projects for the police for which work is delayed and categorised as sick projects, Works Minister Fadillah Yusof said today.

The projects are construction of the Johor police contingent headquarters (IPK), Public Order Training Centre in Bentong, Pahang and a Police Musuem in Bukit Kepong, Muar.

“The contractor for the IPK project has problems, financially and in terms of work quality, despite repeated warning and discussions, so the contract has been terminated.

“However, we have identified a new contractor and work on the project will resume in July,” he told reporters after presenting the excellent service award to staff of the ministry in Kuala Lumpur today.

The Johor IPK project, comprising an administrative block, a multi-storey car park and housing, was launched in 2010. It was supposed to be ready in July last year.

As for the other two projects, Fadillah said work would resume by the existing contractors under the supervision of PWD.

“The project in Bentong is scheduled for completion in July this year. The PWD will terminate the contract and appoint a new one if the existing contractor still fail to proceed with the project.”

On the Bukit Kepong project, there were some problems with the design work and the project was scheduled for completion in November this year.

He said this in response to a statement by Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar yesterday on the delay in the construction of 14 police projects nationwide, worth RM1 billion.
