PKR vice-president N Surendran has lodged a police report over a racist posting on a ‘fake’ Twitter account that impersonated him. This was done at the Dang Wangi police station at 11am today.

 

Surendran, who was accompanied by his lawyer Eric Paulsen and PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil ( right ), stressed that he had never posted that tweet.

 

Accusing BN supporters as culprits, the Padang Serai MP said that the racist posting tweeted on May 22, reads “Almost everyday policemen were killed in India. But in Malaysia, when Malay police killed, it becomes a big issue”.

 

“They tried to portray me and PKR as racist and to dehumanise me,” he said, adding that this was not the first time opposition leaders and civil society members were attacked by pro-BN bloggers and twitter users.

 

Surendran, a practicing lawyer, also noted that such an offense falls under Section 469 of the Penal Code for forgery, which the suspect can be jailed up to three years upon conviction.

 

“Besides making police report, we will also go to the MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission). I don’t know the identities, because they are cowards.

"They don’t put their name out there, but I’m going to seek the assistance of the police and also the MCMC to identify the culprits.

"We receive much criticism, but not this kind of action. We can’t accept it,” asserted Surendran.

 

Paulsen said the police should focus on investigating serious crimes like forgery and urged the police not to use double standards when it comes to investigating issues related to opposition leaders.
