YOURSAY ‘Zaik says there's evidence of anti-Muslim agenda yet can't show it.’
Isma chief: Nation heading towards racial conflict
Malaccan: If the country is going to hell in a hand basket, then Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) and other BN-linked, Taliban-like NGOs must stand at the forefront of being the cause.
Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abdul Rahman says there is strong evidence of an agenda against Malay Muslims, yet so strong that he cannot offer an iota of it. Didn't we see this with Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria before?
This irony is not lost on anyone, of any race and faith. As Federal Court Justice Zainun Ali aptly put it - mere "plausibility should not be mistaken for veracity". Otherwise, the whole nation would be overrun by rumours and conjecture.
And Abdullah Zaik goes on to try and defend what is essentially a veiled threat by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. What more can be said of Abdullah except that he may be truth-challenged and evidence-starved.
Aries46: It is a criminal waste of time rebutting rants based on race and religious paranoia that beset these extremist groups.
The major issues of religion that has been making the news are those related to banning the use of the word 'Allah' by The Herald publication and the unilateral conversion of minors, both of which has been found to have a direct bearing on non-Muslims, and have been referred for judicial decisions.
Are these the issues that Abdullah Zaik contends to having denied Muslim rights that justifies the threat of another May 13?
Not Confused: DAP is "forgetting its place"? What exactly is its "place"? Indeed, Abdullah Zaik is nothing but a trumped-up leader of a thoroughly unpleasant racist organisation.
They claim to represent Malay Muslims, who I would remind him, make up 65 percent of the entire population of the country, but he still bleats and constantly complains that they are being threatened or mistreated in some unexplained way.
Is Isma planning to convert into the Malaysian arm of the militant group Isis? This will certainly result in interracial conflict along the lines of Syria and Iraq. Time to wake up, folks.
Sirach: Yes, pray tell how DAP "is extreme, goes overboard and forgets its place". This is a classic demonisation tactic - making sweeping unsubstantiated allegations.
Sadly, this is a strategy is employed not just by what can best be described as the radical fringe, but is a tried and tested ploy of the ruling elites.
Inject fear, however unfounded, of the untrustworthy "other" in the minds of your support base, and your power remains entrenched. Well, at least for now.
Luke: "DAP and Chinese parties hide behind their multiracial slogans to impose their will and deny the rights of the Malays and Islam," said Abdullah Zaik.
What rights of Malays and Islam have been denied?
Wayan: Utter nonsense. He keeps throwing stones at a dog that is chained and when the dog reacts, he is the first to claim that the dog is dangerous and must be put down.
Negarawan: Let's not get drawn into this Umno trap of racial and religious discord.
There is obviously a major leadership crisis within Umno-BN, and also deep economic problems facing the country. What better way than to distract the rakyat from these problems with a circus show by Perkasa, Isma, Jati, and other Umno-funded cronies.
I would say that Umno has been pretty successful in creating this distraction judging from the news headlines in the last 12 months. If the PM is sincere about national unity and harmony, he would have shown leadership out of this rut a long time ago.
But no, the distraction from the deep troubles of the country has to go on because Umno doesn't know how to, or doesn't want to resolve them, and hence the golden silence.
Right-thinking Malaysians from all backgrounds should rise above these provocations and instigations by Umno, and stand united despite the unrelenting pressure.
SteveOh: If the nation is heading towards racial conflict, then the government obviously failed to stop the agents provocateurs - the architects and activists of the malaise. Everyone can clearly see who these culprits are.
They are not DAP, not the Christians, not the Chinese, not The Star , not Malaysiakini , not Malaysian Insider , not Zaid Ibrahim, not all those wrongly demonised by the real culprits. If we don't uphold the truth, we don't deserve to be heard.
Proarte: We all know Isma, Perkasa, Perkida, Abim are Malay supremacist outfits which Umno subcontracts to do their dirty work. They are paid to make inflammatory and religiously bigoted comments to shore up support from the uneducated, ignorant and insecure Malays.
The rural and semi-urban Malays form a large part of this group which Umno is focusing on. Rational and decent Malaysians know what the game is.
The more important question is why the Malays in PAS and PKR not immediately refuting this incitement to hatred and warmongering? By their silence, they appear to give credence to these supremacist and bigoted pronouncements.
Fortunately, most Malaysians are ahead of our sorry bunch of Malay Muslim opposition politicians, who allow Umno to set its unholy agenda and give it credence by their cowardly and studied silence.
Anon1: I wait for the day when sensible, ordinary and learned Malays shake off the shackles of dark politics and the fear of being labeled un-Malay or un-Islamic, for being just, wise and fair, to speak out against people like Abdullah Zaik and his masters of doom.
There are many out there who wish to do so but are suppressed due to the dark politics practised on them by the present regime.
Anyway Abdullah Zaik, racial conflict will only take place if started by your filthy trap and your masters. Even then, you and your mob will find such a conflict difficult to gain traction as people out there aren't as stupid and dumb as you.
Bamboo: There are no racist conflicts except in the imagination of Umno and its associates like Isma, Perkasa and Utusan.
Thank God the majority of Malaysians including Malays are sensible and too busy to make ends meet than to pay attention to this fanning of racist fires.
Izzat Aziz: I’m borrowing words from the movie ‘V for Vendetta’:
"How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror."
