After several months of lobbying the federal government to release the relevant documents on the controversial Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex), Putrajaya has finally agreed to the request.

However, the federal agency Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) does not appear interested in providing the documents.

Instead, it has passed the ball to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), saying the documents have been handed to the latter.

Acting on this, the ‘Say No To Kidex’ (SNTK) group today submitted MHA's letter to Petaling Jaya mayor Alinah Ahmad who received it in her office at the MBPJ.

SNTK committee member Mak Khuin Weng said he hopes the local council will release the Kidex documents to them within seven days.

Mak lamented that the federal government was passing the ball on the matter despite Works Minister Fadilah Yusof initially promising SNTK that the Kidex documents would be released to them.

'While we appreciate that MHA has finally agreed to release the documents to us through a third party, we would like to put on record this is an unnecessary delay and appears to be a creative interpretation of the works minister's instructions," he told a press conference at the MBPJ lobby this morning.

The documents involved are the Traffic Impact Assessment Report (TIA), an additional TIA that was done, the preliminary environmental impact assessment (PEIA) and the preliminary Kidex alignment plan.

He said the decision follows a meeting between SNTK, MHA, Kidex Sdn Bhd, MCA representatives opposed to the project and Fadilah on July 3.

‘Report for minister’

At the meeting, Fadilah agreed to have the documents released so that SNTK can review them and prepare a report where it will outline its concerns about he project as part of the feedback process.

“Upon receiving SNTK’s report, Fadilah will call another formal meeting with the relevant agencies and parties

“At the meeting, we exchanged views with the minister and secured an agreement where SNTK would submit a report to the works minister on all issues we have with the project,”Mak said.

Mak said SNTK will release the documents to the public when it receives them as well as the report that they will be preparing.

Meanwhile, SNTK vice-chairperson S Selve said the group will meet with the Selangor Land and Mineral Department for assurance that upon the expiration of freeze on over 3,000 land titles involved in the Kidex project will not be renewed.

The freeze lapsed last month and was not renewed, throwing a spanner into the works of the Kidex project.

“The Selangor Menteri Besar (Abdul Khalid Ibrahim) told us to meet the land office so we will probably see them on Monday.

“We want to make sure the land freeze is not renewed,” he said.
