Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim should just leave office without any more delaying tactics so that hopes of PKR grassroots for reform will not be dashed, three more division leaders said.

 

In a statement today, Manikavasagam Sundram (Kuala Selangor), Puvenendran Munusamy (Hulu Langat) and Mahammad Ishak Zainuddin (Pandan) added to the chorus of eight division and branch leaders, who had earlier urged Khalid to obey a Pakatan Rakyat decision that he be replaced.

 

"Khalid's refusal to relinquish his position will only ruin his own image. The grassroots are questioning what is his real motive to take such an attitude which appears to benefit only the enemies of Pakatan.

 

"The grassroots have put big hopes on Pakatan bringing reformation and improvements to Selangor," they said.

 

The three stressed that MB Khalid need not wait for Selangorians to ask him to go, noting that he was also appointed through party channels last year and was not directly elected by the people. Therefore, the party could fire him if it wanted to.

 

"The process to name or drop the Menteri Besar candidate does not have to go through the people, it is the ruling party's right. By right, Khalid should willingly withdraw peacefully without making all kinds of excuses and tricks," they said.

 

For the sake of a smooth transition of power, they hoped that Khalid and others in the party would now end the fuss about the changeover.

 

Decision unheeded

 

Pakatan, on July 21, had already urged that Khalid be replaced by PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail but this has gone unheeded so far. 

 

Previously, Subang division chief and MP Sivarasa Rasiah ( right ), Selayang division chief and MP William Leong, Klang division chief Yew Boon Lye and Sg Jarom branch chief David Cheong had also made a joint statement urging Khalid to go.

 

Before that, another group of five PKR leaders - Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri (Tanjung Karang), Talip Bujang (Sabak Bernam), Mohamad Fauzi Ahmad (Sungai Besar), Burhan Aman Shah (Sepang) and Azizi Ayob (Kapar), asked for disciplinary action to be meted out on Khalid for refusing to relinquish his position.

 

However, one of the leaders - Kapar's Azizi Ayob - appeared to have later changed his stand.

 

Village chiefs want Khalid to go

 

Meanwhile, some village heads also joined the campaign.

 

Three rural village chiefs in Selangor said Khalid has to go because he violated the consultative style of Pakatan rule.

They noted that they have tried hard to meet Khalid, to petition him to resolve land issues for Chinese new villages in Selangor, but failed.

 

The issues involved some 220 families, who were seeking land rights after staying in place for 50 years. It has been outstanding since March 2008.

 

The statement was issued from Kg Baru Pasir Penambang Tg Karang (Lim Eng Wan), Kampung Baru Sasaran Sg Buloh Kuala Selangor (Lee Boon Huat) and Kampung Baru Bagan Sg Yu Kuala Selangor (Sow Eng Wan).
