Embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim says he is now paying the price for having integrity.

Apologising to the rakyat for the protracted crisis, he said: "I’m sorry you all have to come here to be involved in this.

"It's okay. I decided to be a politician so I have to bear with it. This is the price of integrity," Khalid said in his speech at the state development corporation PKNS integrity conference in Shah Alam today.

He also cited a hadith (tradition and sayings of Prophet Muhammad) which states that destruction will come if one does not fullfil what one is entrusted with.

However, Khalid ( left ) was tight-lipped and only smiled when approached by reporters later.

He was also surrounded by some 20 security personnel who prevented the media from asking questions.

Khalid attended two functions today after cancelling  all his scheduled public functions yesterday, including a meeting with civil servants and the Selangor Football Club annual general meeting.

Khalid was reportedly elected president of the club, even though he was absent from the meeting.

 

All three Pakatan Rakyat parties on Sunday agreed to propose PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace Khalid, after he was sacked from PKR on Aug 9.

Khalid, who had early this year said he wanted to complete his second term before bowing out, was sacked from PKR for refusing the party's order to resign.

With the three parties endorsing Wan Azizah, the Kajang assemblyperson now has support from 48 out of 56 members of the state legislature.

Khalid has requested an urgent audience with the sultan over the matter overseas, but Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he will only meet Khalid once he returns from Europe next week.

Khalid now files suit against PKR sec-gen

In an unrelated development, Khalid had filed a suit against PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail yesterday, for not apologising to him following the release of the dossier titled ‘Why party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail should be menteri besar’ to Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

Khalid named Saifuddin as the solitary defendant and also being the office-bearer of the party. The suit was filed by the firm of Bon Advocates.

It was reported on Aug 13 that Khalid had issued a letter of demand against Saifuddin wanting him to retract and apologise for his statement and in releasing the dossier.

The report by PKR criticised Khalid’s handling of his Bank Islam loan case and the Selangor water restructuring exercise as the main issues. The proposed Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) and the garbage collection issues in the state were also criticised in the dossier

Copies of the report were sent to PKR leaders, including de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, Wan Azizah, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS spiritual adviser Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, and DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.

Copies were also sent to the central leadership of the three Pakatan Rakyat component parties and elected representatives. The dossier was dated Aug 4.

The embattled Selangor MB claimed that the report painted a picture that he engaged in illegal means to settle the Bank Islam loan, had involved in bribery, being of an unsavoury character, untrustworthy, dishonest, hypocrite, unethical, not fit to be the MB and who abused his power for his own benefit.

Khalid is seeking an unspecified amount of damages and a retraction of the dossier which tarnished his name.
