Youth chief insists PAS not exiting Pakatan

PAS Youth Suhaizan Kaiat today again played fire fighter after his vice chairperson Khairil Nizam Khiruddin declared that PAS would exit the coalition "when the time came".

 

Suhaizan, in a statement today, insisted that PAS will not quit Pakatan Rakyat in line with the party's 2008 muktamar decision.

 

Defending Khairil, Suhaizan said his lieutenant's statement was not meant to ask PAS to leave Pakatan.

 

"His actual intention is (to ask that others) not to put pressure on PAS to the extent that PAS changes its mind (and quits Pakatan)," he said in a brief statement today.

 

He said Khairil was also not specifically referring to the Selangor menteri besar crisis when he made the remark.

 

Khairil was on Wednesday quoted by Sinar Harian as saying: "To what extent our patience is, I am confident and trust, when the time comes for us to exit Pakatan, we will quit".

 

Suhaizan added he has contacted DAP Youth chief Teo Kok Seong and PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to meet Khairil on the matter.

 

"I advise myself, the PAS leadership as well as Pakatan to avoid initiating or reacting to statements that can strain ties in Pakatan just like how the word 'divorce' is (taboo) between husband and wife," he said.

 

Suhaizan had previously also organised meetings with the top leadership of parties Pakatan in a bid to cool down the tensed situation over the Selangor crisis.

 

The ulama faction in PAS has also said the party is willing to leave Pakatan if it has to.
