Though faced with the possibility of landing behind bars once again, Anwar Ibrahim continues to joke about his predicament.

Addressing the audience at the World Forum for Muslim Democrats today, the 67-year-old  opposition leader said he may be given a choice between the Sungai Buloh and Kajang prisons.

"Perhaps I will be in Kajang Prison because of the Kajang Move," he added, drawing laughter from the audience.

The "Kajang Move" refers to the efforts taken to oust former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Tomorrow is the sixth day Anwar will be in court for his final appeal against his sodomy conviction and five-year prison sentence.

'Get to finish reading a book'

Meanwhile, Anwar, who mentioned French thinker Alexis de Tocqueville's book 'Democracy in America', said he may finally have the time to finish reading it if he gets imprisoned.

"I never finished reading the book. Maybe I will have time to finish it.

"But I don't think my wife (PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) will be too happy about it," he said.

The Permatang Pauh MP also said in jest that there could be a fatwa issued, banning him for encouraging people to read an American text, although Tocqueville was French.

Anwar had earlier said that democracy will not be able to function when a country has political prisoners and the media is abused.

Citing the US' declaration of independence which speaks on unalienable rights, he said this shows how there is no negotiation when it relates to freedom.
