Gov't still rewarding failed incinerator contractor

Despite having failed in constructing and maintaining four incinerators worth almost RM200 million, a contractor still had its contract renewed by the Housing, Local Government and Urban Well-being Ministry.

XCN Technologies was clearly termed as an unqualified contractor, which should never been selected for the project in a report tabled by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) yesterday.

However, DAP's Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming ( right ) told a press conference at the Parliament lobby, XCN Technologies was still awarded an RM3.5 million contract in April this year, to continue to repair and manage the Pangkor incinerator.

XCN built the Pangkor incinerator in Perak but it has not been operating according to specifications.

The ministry's selection of XCN has been panned by both PAC and the audit report in 2012.

“The awarding of the contract to operate and maintain the incinerator shows a complete disregard to the blatant flouting of environmental standards by XCNT,” he said.

“It seems that the ministry has not learnt its lessons despite the PAC hearings and the audit report,” he added.
