YOURSAY ‘Zam, why blame the Chinese again for the failure of Utusan ?’
Even PM's brother's CIMB shuns Utusan, rues Zam
Lin Wenquan: CIMB chief Nazir Razak, notwithstanding his pedigree, is a shrewd businessman.
He has recognised the folly of spending his advertising dollars in a much discredited Utusan Malaysia that has over the years been churning utter garbage, with contributions from the wannabe Malay, Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, and the racist, Awang Selamat.
The more readership the paper has, the more advertisers it will attract for obvious reasons. Zainuddin Maidin (Zam), in his twisted logic, would have us believe it is the other way round.
So, conveniently, Zam blames the advertising agencies, DAP, and the Chinese in his trademark racist venom for Utusan' s failure when even the bulk of its readership, obviously the Malays, have deserted it.
Indeed, the foreign missions are using it as a barometer to gauge the throes of a decaying state where corruption, racial, discrimination, religious intolerance and muzzling of legitimate dissent are practised and exhorted by the likes of Utusan .
Many more may ditch it after the latest wild allegations and Chinese-bashing exercise.
Man on the Street: Zam, the urban Malays themselves don't even read Utusan and with such a low number of readerships from your own community, how do you expect big corporations to place advertisements in this newspaper?
You fail to understand that like other communities, there is a lack of reading culture or habits in the Malay community and also, minimal spending on quality reading materials. You have been too long in politics not to know or realise this.
You are just blaming others for Umno’s failure to overcome the weaknesses in the Malay community.
Ferdtan: Zam, why blame the Chinese again for the failure of Utusan ? Why not blame the thousands of ringgit Utusan lost due to law suits against them? The massive legal fees they incurred in legal cases could have been saved to reduce the losses.
Fire_rock: A few months ago, on a late Sunday afternoon, I sent a relative to the emergency ward of HUKM (Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) in Cheras. I noticed two piles of Mingguan Malaysia near the registration counter.
One was still fastened with plastic tapes and the other was unrestrained. I estimated about 30 percent of the newspapers were taken (by comparing with the untouched bundle). It gave me the impression that Utusan was not a very popular newspaper.
Hence, which enterprise would want to promote itself in Utusan ? Suffice to say Nazir has good business acumen. So so why would he waste money on a poor product?
Jagara: Zam is, like many of his ilk, totally blinkered. How to argue with such a guy? There is little hope for Malaysia unless we have good leaders at the helm. But the sad fact is, we don't.
Penang CM told not to mix politics with food
Shanandoah: There are just too many illegal migrants in Penang who end up cooking rubbish. Penang food is not what it used to be with all these foreign cooks engaged in the business.
Penang laksa tastes better in other states than in Penang. CM Lim Guan Eng is trying to clean up all this mess, including the murders of foreigners in his state.
Continue-The-March: Pertubuhan Minda dan Social Prihatin (PMSP) president Ramesh Rao, whose interests are you championing - foreigners or Malaysian workers? Why does Malaysia need so many foreigners to cook in Malaysian hawker stalls and restaurants?
Malaysia has been over-dependent on foreigners, no thanks to Umno Baru’s screwed-up policies.
Malaysia is a small country with a small population and we should have up-skilled using more automation, adopting the New Zealand/Australia model.
Unfortunately, due to Umno Baru’s self-enriching policy, Malaysia is importing millions and millions of cheap and low-skilled labour.
The labour importing agent (cronies) make a huge sum of money for every labourer imported, and then dump them with another sub-agent (another crony who makes another sum of money) and finally to the employer.
By allowing cheap labour into Malaysia, it discourages local employers from upgrading or automating. Thus Malaysia today is becoming a low-skilled economy.
And every year billions of ringgit are sent home by foreigners, causing a huge outflow, depreciating the ringgit and bleeding Malaysia.
Anonymous_1383370580: The only exception should be if it is a special dish that can only be prepared by the so-called foreigners. Then, special permission should be granted to keep the foreign cook.
Otherwise, please adhere to the ruling set by the Penang government. This is applicable to all operators in the state.
Sleepy: I am not a president of an NGO or from Penang or even in the food industry, but I understand that the banning of foreign cooks applies only to street hawkers.
So I believe the issue here could be one of classification, that is: are you a street hawker, a restaurant or in-between?
Sabahan: It seems to be the trend in Malaysia to blame race and religion in all matters. How can the banning of foreign cooks for all shops and stalls be racial?
