'Pro-Umno bloggers fail to protect Rosmah'
UMNO AGM Pro-Umno bloggers have failed to protect prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor against cyber attacks by pro-opposition bloggers.
UMNO AGM Pro-Umno bloggers have failed to protect the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor against attacks from pro-opposition bloggers.
Student delegate Nur Farhana Mohd Anuar said netizens "relentlessly and unsympathetically" target Rosmah as pro-Umno bloggers are usually late to come to her defence.
"There are not many pro-Umno bloggers in the first place.
"Sometimes, we ourselves spread (things about Rosmah) because we think it is funny, when it's not," said Nur Farhana when debating Umno president Najib Abdul Razak's policy speech at the Umno general assembly in Kuala Lumpur.
She said they were willing to become Umno's young bloggers than "continue being belittled by the opposition on social media", stressing that they should not lose the cyber war.
"We cannot be like the opposition which spreads fake news," said the fifth-year medical student from Moscow, who is a member of Russia’s Umno club.
It is in cases like this, she added, that the Sedition Act is relevant.
Nur Farhana had earlier outlined the probable reasons why support from the younger generation towards Umno had decreased.
"Their perception towards Umno is that it is no longer relevant, full of old people and not fresh with new ideas.
"The young people are also bored with Umno for conducting many stereotypical 'syok sendiri' (self deluding) programmes," she said.
In order to make Umno more appealing to youths, she said it was important to obtain their participation from the grassroots' level to the top leadership.
"As the country's future, it is important for youths to get early exposure to the country's political landscape," she added.
