UMNO AGM Kedah Umno delegate Mohd Kamal Saidin today blamed voters for not supporting BN over the government's about-turn on abolishing the Sedition Act 1948.

"Najib did not promise to abolish the Sedition Act. He merely said it would be studied on (this) condition – the strong support and confidence in BN.

"If Umno continues to lead the government, we will study. But what happened after that? Who did not give support to BN?

"Therefore, after that, the prime minister said this was a Chinese tsunami," he told delegates a the Umno general assembly today.

As such, he said it was not Najib who broke his promise when announcing on Thursday the colonial-era law will not be abolished but instead strengthened.

"If we want to talk about promises, who broke their promise? Is it the prime minister or them (the voters)?

"They are the ones who broke their promise – the chauvinists, racial extremists, anti-Islam extremists, and Malays in the opposition who are in cahoots with traitors to the country," he said.

'Malays, abandon Pakatan'

Mohd Kamal then went on to list 13 reasons urging Malay Muslims, particularly those in PAS, to abandon Pakatan Rakyat.

He said any Malay Muslim who supports the opposition was tantamount to, among others, condoning insulting Islam, Malays, royalty, the army, and the police, as well as belittling the country's muftis, fatwas and syariah courts.

Meanwhile, Selangor Umno delegate Ismail Kijo, urged that the strengthened Sedition Act should also criminalise the questioning of Malay interests.

"Selangor requests that matters concerning Islam as well as Malay interests be included in this Act.

"Why? Because these matters are being questioned by certain quarters on the other side (opposition)," he said.
